AUGUST SANDGREN

An almost 100 years old bookbinding tradition makes the starting point for Danish August Sandgren and the exclusive leather boxes they are known for today.

The Dane August Sandgren (1893-1934) was a pioneer in box making and bookbinding in the beginning of the 20th century. Today, almost 100 years later, the company August Sandgren still masters the art of traditional box making and still represent the very best when it comes to beautiful storage solutions for life’s little things – at home, in hotels or at the office. The leather boxes designed for the Fritz Hansen Objects collection of accessories are a terrific example of August Sandgren’s ongoing dedication to craftsmanship and the skill of combining functionality and aesthetics in a modest manner.

Much like Republic of Fritz Hansen August Sandgren has a long history as well as a heritage characterised by both tradition and innovation. Some even say, that Sandgren was to box making and bookbinding, what Arne Jacobsen was to Danish design furniture. Each August Sandgren design is pure, functional, aesthetic and expresses warmth. Their understanding and impeccable interpretation of aesthetics when it comes to Danish design is evident in everything they produce.

The August Sandgren company today constantly strives to honour the legacy of the founder by following the principles of his work of creating functional, aesthetic and timeless design pieces. Under the leadership of two design savvy Danes, Pia Kirkeskov Andersen and Vibeke Snedgaard Rafaelsen, Sandgren’s ideas continue to live on and flourish.
