Interior designer Adam Nathaniel Furman was tasked with crafting "a place of happiness, joy and lightness" for an expat couple with a desire for something different.
Diverting from traditional Japanese aesthetic, Furman found inspiration in Japan’s ‘cute culture’ and the un-curated elements of domestic daily life. The apartment features a bubble-gum-pink kitchen and a striped watermelon-green vinyl floor, fusing contemporary techniques with natural and artificial materials. In the bar area, slim, blue tiles create a herringbone-pattern splashback, while lilac carpet sets off a sugar-sweet palette in the dining room.
In the main living space, a two-toned Fri™ easy chair by Fritz Hansen adds a striking, playful expression. Designed by Spanish designer Jaime Hayon, the chair features a brushed aluminium base and a soft, sculptured form, pleasing to the body as it is to the eye.
Dark blue Drop™ chairs in the kitchen/bar area draw inspiration from the feeling of an embrace, designed to allow freedom of movement and a unique sense of comfort.
