COMMUNICATING QUALITY WITH DESIGN

‘Carlsberg’s new headquarters had to signal something durable and classic with a modern twist, and it was with that in mind that I chose the Grand Prix™ chair for Carlsberg’s canteen,’ explains designer Josephine Malling.

‘I have matched the particular grey colour of the chair and its dark brass legs with the structure and colour nuances of the terrazzo floor.’

The canteen is a space where employees can gather in smaller or larger groups, depending on need. It also serves as a traditional dining room for all staff.

‘With a mix of Grand Prix chairs with powder coated bases and wooden legs, we created a warmer and nicer room and atmosphere that the employees want to use. In addition to the canteen, I placed the Grand Prix chairs in one of the largest meeting rooms, which also functions as an auditorium.’

Malling chose Arne Jacobsen’s Little Giraffe™ chairs for several of the company’s smaller ‘study rooms’ and for the company board room. The grand board room design was to communicate quality, pointing back to company’s core value and its product, Carlsberg beer.

‘The Little Giraffe chair combines comfort and beautiful design – and goes well with the building,’ Malling notes. ‘Using textiles, I have colour-graded the chair all the way through the headquarters, so the expression of the chair changes as you make your way through the building.’
