Companions Since 1956

Seventy years after their debut, Poul Kjærholm’s iconic PK22™ lounge chair and PK61™ coffee table remain enduring benchmarks of minimalist design — a masterful balance of structure, material, and form. Originally conceived as companion pieces for his own home, the PK22™ and PK61™ are reintroduced in 2026 with new, tactile materials in celebration of their iconic designs. To mark this design milestone, both pieces return in updated materials that highlight Kjærholm’s dedication to material honesty and structural clarity. PK22™ — Now upholstered in Haze leather, a velvety-soft material with a stone-washed look that brings depth and warmth to the chair’s signature steel frame. PK61™ — Updated with a grey-white granite tabletop, echoing Kjærholm’s early explorations with natural stone and his reverence for honest materials. Together, they form a sculptural composition in steel, leather, and stone — balanced, enduring, and unmistakably Kjærholm.

POUL KJÆRHOLM

A trained cabinetmaker who completed his studies at the Danish School of Arts and Crafts, Poul Kjærholm had a particular interest in construction materials; especially steel, which he considered a material deserving the artistic respect that was commonly awarded to wood. Poul Kjærholm initiated a collaboration with furniture manufacturer Ejvind Kold Christensen in 1955, and that collaboration continued for the rest of Kjærholm’s life with the two families remaining close to this very day. Two years after the designer’s passing, the Kjærholm trustees entrusted Fritz Hansen with the production and sales of ‘The Kjærholm Collection’– designs developed by Poul Kjærholm from 1951 to 1967. Fritz Hansen is honoured to continue production to this day and to distribute Poul Kjærholm’s furniture to architects and private customers around the world.
